The University of Melbourne and Waipapa Taumata Rau (University of Auckland) are co-hosting the Indigenous-centered fellowship, the Atlantic Fellows for Social Equity (AFSE) Program 2026, and applications are currently being accepted.
In Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand, and Pacific Island countries, this program fosters a thriving network of Indigenous leaders and their allies committed to launching and maintaining Indigenous-led social change. It is designed for professionals in their mid-career who are actively involved in community projects and who have a strong desire to develop creative ideas and turn them into real programs that support social justice for Indigenous people.
The AFSE Program provides essential networks, resources, and structural support to enable participants in building a more just and equitable society, regardless of your profession in the business, government, healthcare, community services, or artistic fields.
Benefits of the Program Establishment Year (2026)

Qualifications for Eligibility
Indigenous people and non-Indigenous allies who have demonstrated experience working with Indigenous communities are eligible applicants, provided they meet the following requirements:
- Citizenship: Must be a Pacific Island country, Aotearoa New Zealand, or Australia’s citizen or permanent resident.
- Experience: Either have five to eight years of professional experience in social transformation (usually mid-career, aged 25 to 65) or have an undergraduate degree.
- Education status: As of January 2026, the student cannot be enrolled in any other academic program or have a thesis pending assessment.
- Fellowship status: No other Atlantic Fellowships may be pursued at this time.
- Language competency: fluency in English is necessary.
- Being prepared for travel requires having a passport or being eligible for one, as well as committing to roughly seven weeks of travel in Australia and New Zealand in 2026.
- Pacific Island applicants need to apply for an Australian student visa.
